HELP! I bricked my HTC Desire using the over-the-air update!

Wednesday, 22 December 2010 16:05

That was what a friend of me told me via ICQ some days ago. He used the OTA update feature that proclaimed a new android version found and accepted the update. What his phone did was updating the bootloader and the android system and got stuck within an infinite bootup loop. So he came over and we have spent some hours of research to fix this issue.

Hacking your ONYX BOOX 60 (Part II)

Last Updated on Monday, 20 September 2010 07:26 Sunday, 19 September 2010 10:56

Well, it has been a while since I posted my short article about my first attempts to squeeze out some more information from my ONYX BOOX 60. Due to a massive lack of time I stopped my research some time after this article. Today I just decided to proceed a little bit and write down some of my ideas, how it might be possible to gain deeper access to the system.

This article also contains some images of the mainboard of the device.

Next firmware update for ONYX BOOX available

Last Updated on Saturday, 20 March 2010 13:03 Saturday, 20 March 2010 11:36

Today I just recognized that there is a a new firmware update (Version 1.3) for my ONYX BOOX available at www.onyx-international.com/support.

The new software is even newer than the version preinstalled on my device (Version 1.2.2) so I just decided to update. To install the update you have to use a SD card. Just put the onyx_update.upd into the root directory of the SD card. Turn off the reader. After the reader has powered off just put the SD card into the slot and turn the device on again while holding the OK button. Wait until you see the message that the device searches for the firmware update to release the OK button.

Setup bug in Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Beta

Last Updated on Monday, 15 March 2010 15:42 Monday, 15 March 2010 15:38

During the setup of the SharePoint 2010 Beta system I had some trouble while setting up the shared services. During the setup process I just go a odd error message complaining about an unrecognized attribute:

Unrecognized attribute ‘allowInsecureTransport’

I found out that this is a known issue and it can be fixed by installing an update provided by Microsoft. Afterwards you should be able to install the necessary services. The information about the update can be found at the “Installation notice for SharePoint Public Beta on Microsoft Server 2008 R2 and Microsoft Windows 7”-entry at the Microsoft SharePoint Team Blog.

The update is available on the download page you find just here.

The SharePoint 2010 Beta Setup Mess

Last Updated on Monday, 15 March 2010 15:44 Tuesday, 09 March 2010 13:22

After seeing the presentations of the SharePoint Server 2010 on the Microsoft stand on the CeBIT 2010 I decided to install an own instance to test the features of the new SharePoint Server. I just started to fulfill all basic requirements:

  1. Getting myself a 64bit capable machine with Windows Server 2008 R2 installed
  2. Installing the SQL Server 2008 including SP1 (ignoring the incompability warning and installing SP1 directly after the SQL Server Setup does a great job)
  3. During the setup I found out that it is necessary to install at least the CU1 for the SQLServer 2008 SP1. It turned out that it was not possible to install this UC1 at all (at least on my system) so I used the UC6 I’ve found here: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B977443&x=13&y=9

New design for gadgetweb.de

Last Updated on Saturday, 23 January 2010 00:23 Sunday, 17 January 2010 20:38

I just decided to upload a new design for this page as the one I used was some template from the joomla template library. The new design has still some flaws I have to get out. It does not work corret on Internet Explorers before the version 8 and it looks best on browsers supporting the rounded corner CSS tags.

The current page structure does not yet fit the design needs, so there are some empty fields… this will be changed as soon as I find the time for it ;)
